The Play Is On Hold (But Don’t Go Anywhere…)

If you’ve been following my “turn the book into a stage play” saga, you’ll know I’ve been properly in it.
The late-night notes. The sudden bursts of confidence. The slightly unhinged voice memos to myself that start with “OK HEAR ME OUT…” and end with “why am I like this?”
And for a while, it was genuinely happening. I was writing, sharing drafts, getting that familiar pit-of-the-stomach feeling (the same one I had when I first shared the book), and letting myself believe: this could actually become a thing.
But… for the moment, the play is on hold.

Not cancelled. Not abandoned. Not shoved in a drawer with old receipts and emotional baggage. Just… paused. Put gently on the shelf while I catch my breath and follow something else that’s quietly tapping me on the shoulder and saying, “Hi. Over here. You might want to look at this.”
Because something unexpected has cropped up.
And it’s one of those detours that feels slightly mysterious and possibly super interesting. The kind that makes you go:
“Wait… is this the route?”
I can’t say too much yet (I know, I know — vague), but I promise I’m not being dramatic for sport. I’m just giving it a little time to take shape before I blurt it out like an overexcited Labrador.
What I can say is this:
The play isn’t going anywhere.
I’m still excited about it.
I’m still determined to bring my words to life in a bigger way.
I’m just taking a different path to get there.
And honestly? That might end up being the best part of the whole story.
So if you were enjoying the behind-the-scenes play updates — thank you. Truly. I’ve loved how many of you have messaged, encouraged me, asked questions, and basically reminded me that putting yourself out there isn’t completely mortifying when there are kind people on the other side.
I’ll share more soon, when it’s less “I have a vibe and a suspicion” and more “OK THIS IS HAPPENING.”
Until then, consider this a tiny cliffhanger. The wholesome kind. Not the kind where someone dramatically turns and says “We need to talk,” then leaves the room.
More soon.
Love Nella x
