Out of Action, Still Overflowing

There’s a particular kind of stillness that comes with recovery. Not the romantic, candlelit kind where you “finally slow down” and sip herbal tea like a wellness influencer.

No. This is the kind where you attempt to stand up and your body says, Absolutely not, babe. Sit down and think about what you’ve done.

I’ve been out of action recovering from surgery, and I’ll be honest: it’s been a mixed bag. I’m grateful it’s done, grateful I’m healing… and also slightly offended that healing involves doing nothing while the laundry multiplies and the to-do list continues to live its best life without me.

But something really lovely has been happening in the background.

While I’ve been 'taking it easy' more 5-star reviews have been coming in for the book, and I can’t tell you what that’s done to me. It fills my heart in a way that’s hard to put into words without going a bit soppy.

Because here’s the thing: writing a book is like shouting a story into the void and hoping it lands in the hands of the people who’ll get it. Hoping it makes someone laugh on a grim Tuesday. Hoping it distracts someone who’s had enough of dating apps and men who say “Not looking for drama” while actively being the drama.

So when someone takes the time to read it, and then takes extra time to leave a kind review? It’s not just nice, it’s proof that it landed.

I’ve read every review with that weird combination of pride and disbelief, like: Is this… about MY book? Are you sure? Did you mean to click five stars or were your fingers just feeling generous?

And honestly, during recovery, that little boost has been like medicine.

If you’ve left a review, told a friend, messaged me a favourite line, or even just quietly bought the book and snorted into your tea, thank you. You’ve made this recovery period feel a lot less like I’m missing out on life, and a lot more like something’s still moving forward while I rest.

So yes, I’m on the mend, thankfully only another 2 procedures to go. My heart is very full.

And if you’re in a season of “out of action” too, whatever the reason, I hope you get a little unexpected joy landing in your lap this week.

Even if it’s just a five-star reminder that something you made… matters.

If you fancy a laugh / a cry / a ‘that literally happened to me’ moment, you can grab the book here: https://amzn.eu/d/07xHnn0M
